Secondhand Market Insights.

What we found

This month’s survey for m.core, the institute for marketing & consumer research of the University of Economy in Vienna, was about the booming topic of secondhand products. The test persons were asked which products they have discarded, even though they were still usable. With 68 %, clothes are the biggest category. 56 % parted with books, 47 % discarded their still working smartphones. All categories are often gifted to friends or sold. The participants also received or bought used goods: 72 % received books, 60 % received shirts, and 46 % received used smartphones.

Secondhand goods are a big topic for our test persons: The vast majority (91 %) of participants have bought or sold used goods – this mostly happens online or in secondhand shops.
